John Hume wins our Loch Lomond Whiskies The Open readers’ competition in Irish clean sweep

UK. Xander Schauffele’s stunning triumph in the 152nd Open Golf Championship at Royal Troon, which concluded on Sunday, came as no surprise to many of the entrants in our exciting readers’ competition held in partnership with Loch Lomond Whiskies, official spirit partner of The Open Championship, writes our Golf Correspondent Chip Anrun.

But after that, things became trickier than getting out of the famed ‘Postage Stamp’ bunker on the eighth hole.

The failure of several favoured players, notably Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Bryson Dechambeau, to make the cut meant that many contestants’ chances were as rough as the fairway fringes on the 15th hole (‘the Crosbie’).

As reported, Loch Lomond also celebrated its support for the oldest golf tournament in the world with a striking makeover of The Moodie Davitt Report desktop homepage along with an elegantly curated treatment of our mobile website.

The only contestant whose three players collectively scored under par was The Moodie Davitt Report Chief Administration Officer and ESG Manager Sinead Moodie, who chose Xander Schauffele (-9), Scottie Scheffler (-1) and Robert MacIntyre (+9) but Sinead has honourably disqualified herself on the grounds that she helped organise the tournament.

Similarly, Loch Lomond Group Managing Director – Global Travel Retail Luke Maga (Scheffler, MacIntyre and Adam Scott, who finished even par), a very good golfer (in fact a former professional) himself, would have come in third but as the competition host has also kindly stepped aside.

So our top three placegetters are.

1. Penta Group Senior Adviser John Hume

Industry veteran John opted for Irish professional Shane Lowry (who led after two days and finished -4), MacIntyre and Scott.

As a result he wins the Loch Lomond Course Collection, an exquisite collection featuring some of Loch Lomond’s finest single malts, each inspired by famed golf courses. It is a true treasure for any whisky lover.

2.

As a result, he picks up the Loch Lomond Special Edition Gift Pack, a beautifully presented collection that includes specially selected whiskies, perfect for celebrations or as a luxurious gift.

3. Aer Rianta International Senior Global Corporate Finance Accountant John Wallace

While Shane Lowry slipped down the leaderboard over the last 36 holes, our own Irish contingent soared up it and John completed a stunning triple triumph for the Irish by picking Scheffler and Schauffele (try saying that fast after a few pints of Guinness) to offset the performance of his third choice Ludvig Åberg, who missed the cut.

John wins a unique bottle from Loch Lomond’s special-edition series, showcasing the distillery’s craftsmanship and dedication to quality.
