CHINA. Wangfujing (WFJ) Duty Free celebrated International Women’s Day (8 March) by launching its second Perfume and Cosmetics Festival at Wangfujing International Duty-Free Harbour City in Wanning, Hainan province.

Paying homage to the power of ‘her’, the festival promised a shopping experience to remember, featuring generous discounts and a variety of female-themed salon experiences. These coincided with the local government issuing millions of Yuan in spending vouchers to stimulate consumption.

WFJ International Women’s Day specials see bumper sales

On International Women’s Day itself, one-day promotions were a hit with female consumers, who flocked in droves to purchase duty-free and duty-paid goods. This cast a favourable light on WFJ International Duty-Free Harbor’s mixed (i.e. duty free and duty paid) retail model, the company said.

Top-tier global brands connect with female consumers

This year’s festival saw WFJ Duty Free collaborate with numerous top-tier global brands to reach out to female consumers across various events.

One such activity was WFJ Duty Free’s first masterclass of 2024, held in collaboration with Sisley and Cellcosmet, where invited guests shared skincare tips, tested top-selling products and explored various concepts of feminine beauty.

The travel retailer also worked with Giorgio Armani Beauty to hold an in-store interactive activity, which proved popular with customers.

Passions and power run high with competitions and off-site events

Capitalising on its unique sports and cultural tourism ‘genes’ (Wanning is a heartland of sporting activity in Hainan), Wangfujing International Duty-Free Harbour City served as the venue of Hainan’s first urban Spartan race aimed specifically at women. Participants battled it out in a dopamine-fuelled time-limited obstacle race.

At nearby Riyue Bay, the duty-free brand held a spring seaside-themed beauty salon event in collaboration with well-known surfing brands. Beauty experts were on hand to share their knowhow with attendees.

WFJ Duty Free said the coinciding of the second Cosmetics and Perfume Festival with International Women’s Day represented a celebration that pays homage to the power of women by treating them to a tailored retail experience.

“Our carefully planned, diverse range of events, including promotions, salons and collaborations with top global brands, aim to create a platform where our female shoppers feel respected and looked after,” the company said.

“We continue to be committed to promoting the development of duty-free shopping in Hainan, with this festival injecting fresh vitality and momentum into the duty-free retail market in Q1.” ✈
