GERMANY. Fiete & Frida, a locally themed eatery offering authentic northern Germany cuisine, has opened at Hamburg Airport. The airside concept is operated by Lagardère Travel Retail-owned company Marché.
The venue – which replaces the Point Bar – offers seating with panoramic airfield views and features design details evoking a Hamburg sense of place.

The local connection is made through cobalt-blue tiles, maritime details and fishing ropes, and wallpaper which features the Elbphilharmonie (the famous Hamburg concert hall), Hamburg’s harbour, seagulls and cutters.
Fiete & Frida’s menu focuses on regional specialities and handmade products. Options include classic herring or fried fish rolls, finely topped smörrebröd (open-faced sandwiches, see example in the image below) and spicy tuna sandwiches.
Bread and rolls are made from scratch daily at the in-airport Marché bakery.
Sweet offerings include Hamburg Franzbrötchen (a small, sweet pastry baked with butter and cinnamon) and rice pudding with homemade red berry compote.
Highlights of the drinks menu include cider from the Elbler factory in Hamburg’s HafenCity and Franzbrötchen liqueurs.
There is also a retail element to the venue’s offer with regional sweets and delicacies, tea cups with North German motifs and Fiete & Frida postcards among the items on sale.
Hamburg Airport Head of Center Management Lutz Deubel said: “With Fiete & Frida, we give travellers a piece of the Hamburg lifestyle. The concept reflects the charm and cuisine of our region.
“New gastronomic offers like this are another step to make the stay at the airport even more pleasant for our passengers.”
Marché Operations Director Karina Kaffai commented: “We are delighted that we were able to implement the concept with and at Hamburg Airport. Fiete & Frida is Hamburg in its own way, you just feel at home here.
“Even if guests only stop by for a short time and take a Franzbrötchen with them, they experience and taste what makes our city so special.”
