AUSTRALIA. HMSHost Australia has unveiled the first of eight planned new food & beverage outlets at Cairns Airport Terminal 2: Oporto, a Portuguese-inspired restaurant serving an Australia-influenced menu.

The eatery, the latest in a chain of more than 150 restaurants across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, is serving its signature Flame Grilled Chicken, burgers and wraps served with the Original Chilli Sauce created by its Portugal-born founder, Antonio Cerqueira.

The interior design of the new restaurant combines a mixture of imagery with the use of azulejo, a glazed, coloured tile traditionally used in Spanish and Portuguese buildings.

HMSHost Asia Pacific Regional Managing Director David Mackay said: “We have been operating at the airport since 1996 and have always felt we have played our part in making this airport a success story. We are proud to bring this Aussie favourite to the airport and introduce Oporto to all passengers and airport visitors in North Queensland.”

Cairns Airport CEO Norris Carter said of the new opening: “This is a first for our region, as the first Oporto to open in Cairns and it’s also the first new food outlet to open in the Departure Lounge, as part of our T2 Domestic Terminal upgrade.”
Oporto CEO Craig Tozer said: “Partnering with such a premium organisation as HMSHost is another step in Oporto ensuring we provide our customers with a premium experience.”

HMSHost Australia said the other seven planned openings for Terminal 2, all slated for opening before the end of 2020, feature a mixture of global and local food & beverage brands.

The concessionaire has operated at Cairns Airport’s domestic terminal for the past 20 years.
