SINGAPORE/INTERNATIONAL. Glenfiddich yesterday revealed its latest global travel retail-exclusive range, dubbed The Perpetual Collection, in association with Lotte Duty Free and Changi Airport.
To celebrate the new collection, Glenfiddich has launched an exclusive Changi 1st pop-up at Changi Airport Terminal 1 Departures (Transit). This makes Changi the first place in Asia where travellers can explore the collection. The immersive experience ranges from interacting with collective artwork and tasting the liquid to enjoying a gifting station. The Changi 1st pop-up is open from 27 September to 5 November.
As the name suggests, the collection comprises a range of whiskies in perpetual motion, drawn from vats that have never been emptied. Brand owner William Grant & Sons said , “Each successive vat fill is like a new generation of whisky building on the past, ever increasing in character, dimension and complexity, giving consumers a unique experience with every sip.”
Expressions in the four-strong collection (see details below) range in retail price from S$80 (US$55.70) to S$165 (US$115) at Singapore Changi Airport Lotte Duty Free shops and on iShopChangi.
This innovative technique – known from its sherry origins in Spain as the Solera Vat process – was pioneered in the whisky world by Glenfiddich. The company said this approach epitomises it philosophy of breaking category boundaries.
The Solera Vat process adds continuous layers of flavours by only ever bottling half the whisky in the vats before refilling. As such, the vats still contain the original liquid – described by Glenfiddich as a line from the past into the future.
The range includes four exclusive expressions {descriptions courtesy of Glenfiddich}
- VAT 01 (ABV 40%) – Described as an exceptionally elegant single malt, suited to every palate. Ever in motion thanks to continuous marrying in Solera VAT 1, the expression layers sweet and spicy notes for a soft and mellow taste with added depth due to its maturation in bourbon and red wine casks. A balanced and refreshingly smooth Glenfiddich. S$80/US$55.70
- VAT 02 (ABV 43%) – Mellow yet complex. Double matured in oak and Spanish sherry casks and married in Solera VAT 2, this rich single malt develops through continuous motion to deliver a deliciously smooth taste that intrigues. A bold and silky Glenfiddich. S$104/US$72.50
- VAT 03 (ABV 50.2% – non-chill filtered) – 15 Years Old. Elevated over 15 years of maturation in European oak sherry and ex-bourbon casks, VAT 03 distinctly embodies the Glenfiddich pioneering spirit. This silky-smooth full-bodied whisky harmoniously combines warm notes of spice with hints of nutty marzipan and dark sherry oak. A satisfyingly rich and sweet Glenfiddich for connoisseurs. S$110/US$76.50
- VAT 04 (ABV 47.8% – non-chill filtered) – 18 Years Old. Warming and refined. Patiently aged in Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks for 18 years, this Solera whisky is married and continuously transformed in Solera VAT 4 to deliver a deep, rich aroma of robust oak, ripe orchard fruit and baked apple. A luxuriously fruity and exceptionally rewarding Glenfiddich. S$165/US$115
The company said the range is designed specifically with travellers in mind, with both liquid and design celebrating perpetual movement, a notion brought to life across each pack, symbolising the dynamism of the Solera process.
Contemporary artwork by Berlin-based Studio A N F adorns the design, featuring generative art created by code. The end product is a special variation of six bespoke pieces of 3D artwork, offering consumers a range of distinct designs to choose from.
William Grant & Sons Regional Director, Global Travel Retail (APAC & Middle East) Quentin Job commented: “With travel restrictions finally easing and people taking to the skies once again, we’re excited to bring the Glenfiddich Perpetual Collection to Singapore Changi Airport Lotte Duty Free shops, our biggest launch in global travel retail in the last decade.
