Aelia España captures Spanish airport fashion & accessories concessions

SPAIN. Aelia España, a subsidiary of LS travel retail, has won five fashion tenders covering 2,200sq m of retail space at Madrid Barajas (T1, T2 and T4), Barcelona, Malaga and Valencia airports.

Aelia España already operates in the mid to high-end fashion segment at Alicante and Malaga airports. This move adds substantially to its operations, with an annual sales target above €20 million.

At Madrid Barajas Airport, the company will operate two commercial areas. The larger of these, at 1,000sq m, is located in T1 (international) and trades under “˜The Fashion Gallery’ name. It will be a “mini department store”, with more than 20 fashion brands as well as an extensive space for jewellery and watches. Spanish brands such as Loewe, Tous, Majórica or Lladró, will be mixed with international names like Bulgari, Montblanc, Ferragamo and Burberry.

The Madrid Barajas T2 store is inaugurated by Aelia and airport management

At Madrid Barajas T2, now open, the company operates The Fashion Place, a 236sq m space offering fashion & accessories in the mid to high-end segment. Brands include Hugo Boss, Desigual, Lacoste, Armani Jeans and Swarovski, and introduces the Spanish brands Bimba & Lola for the first time at the airport.

At the Barajas T4 Satellite, the company will open a new 90sq m boutique for Salvatore Ferragamo.

The 207sq m space awarded for “˜The Fashion Gallery’ at Malaga Airport will feature Hugo Boss and Swarovski alongside Max Mara and Michael Kors as well as Tumi.

The commercial offer will complement that of “˜Your Fashion Store’, which Aelia España currently operates at this airport. LS travel retail noted the importance of catering to Russian passengers here as well as the 73% of travellers from Schengen countries and the UK.

Spanish brands such as Bimba & Lola and Desigual feature in Barcelona

At Barcelona Airport T2, the company has been awarded 388sq m dedicated to fashion & accessories. It will house “a diverse offer” aimed at domestic and British passengers (with brands such as Desigual, Hugo Boss, Lacoste and Armani Jeans) and for Russian and Asian travellers, Guess and Michael Kors units.

Finally, the company will operate its first “˜The Fashion Place’ point of sale at Valencia Airport, which handles many domestic passengers on holiday, as well as travellers with destinations in Italy, France and the UK.

The retailer will operate 200sq m here, featuring Spanish names Bimba & Lola, Desigual and Majórica, as well as the international brands Lacoste, Armani Jeans, Swarovski and Boss Orange.

The company said: “With this major development in Spain, and after the acquisitions of the Gerzon operations in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport early 2014 and of the Paris airports’ fashion business (DFP) in 2011, as well as recent successes in Prague and Warsaw airports, Lagardère Services consolidates its leading position in fashion travel retail in Europe.”

Sales across the new operations (Madrid is pictured) are expected to hit €20 million a year
