IRELAND. Albert Baker, the well-known and highly respected Retail Concessions Manager at Aer Rianta Retail, retires on 2 March after 40 years at the Irish airports group.

Baker told The Moodie Report: “I’ve loved every minute of working with Aer Rianta (now called Dublin Airport Authority). There’s always been a great buzz, with an ever-changing market, ever-changing customers with ever-changing demands.”

Baker began his career in purchasing with Aer Lingus in 1967 and moved across to sister company Aer Rianta, first in retail marketing and then in purchasing roles.

He was one of the Aer Rianta team that helped set up Dubai Duty Free in 1983. He later became Group Buyer for Aer Rianta International, based in Shannon and heading worldwide purchasing. He also worked for the group for periods in Moscow, Warsaw, Budapest and Hong Kong. He was instrumental in securing Aer Rianta’s first venture into Cyprus, where it acted as consultant to Cyprus Airways Duty Free Shops.

In recent years, from his Dublin base, he has overseen the development of concessions at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports.
