Culinary Academy Head Paul Mason and his team of chefs, who created the foodfashion menus for last week’s event |
UK. Airline catering specialist Alpha LSG has launched a new fashionfoodshow.com website and blog, with a show staged last week at the company’s Premium Kitchen at Heston, near London Heathrow.
The aim of the new website and blog is to ensure airlines are kept up to speed with fashionable food ideas that will appeal to their passengers, said Alpha LSG.
The website and blog are supported by live quarterly food fashion shows where Alpha LSG’s culinary development teams will create dishes inspired by food from across the world.
Chefs based at the company’s Culinary Academy – which the company said would set new standards in airline catering – created a range of savoury bites and desserts for the event on 22 May.
Some of the flavours included:
• Poptails – British cocktails made from Virgin and Bloody Mary, Gin and Tonic and Peach Bellini and frozen on a stick.
• Cho Cho Puffs – Japanese crunch cream puffs popular in Asia.
• Cevice Tacos – where a stone bass is turned into ceviche, using lime juice and poppy seeds, and placed in a crunchy taco.
• Jo Burgers – inspired by the emerging street food trend in Johannesburg, it is a Springbok burger served on brioche bread with specialist chutney.
• Healthy Junk – a protein ball of natural flavours with dried berries, nuts and coconut casing. Zero sugar content, it has become popular with keep-fit enthusiasts on Australia’s east coast.
Alpha LSG Chief Operating Officer Alex Forbes said: “We have built our Premium Kitchen and Culinary Academy brand around innovation, excellence and cost-effective solutions that will set the bench-mark within our industry. We feel foodfashionshow.com is an inspirational platform to engage with customers and passengers in a really fun and novel way to showcase our creative ideas and recipes.”
Premium Kitchen Director Marc Warde said Alpha LSG aims to develop the foodfashionshow.com website into a “˜must-visit’ site for international travellers.
“Our Premium Kitchen and Culinary Academy is run by people who are passionate about food and who are constantly monitoring the latest trends in food and drink through personal experience, social media networks and the Internet. We are not just keeping pace with fashion, we will be predicting what is likely to be popular for airline passengers, and translating this with food collections reflecting the spring, summer, autumn and winter seasons.”
Alpha LSG’s development chefs along with the rest of the Culinary Academy team will be posting favourite recipes, recommending restaurants to visit around the globe and dishes and drinks to sample. There are also plans to launch an on-line wine club with wine of the month recommendations.
A daily blog will be updated regularly by the Alpha LSG food gurus. Warde said: “We want our food fashion show blog to become one of the leading must-visit food blogs which will help underpin the credentials of our dynamic and cutting-edge Culinary Academy.”
The company’s Premium Kitchen, Culinary Academy and Dynamic Logistics centre opened in January 2014 at London Heathrow.
