UK. An impressive 2,887 Alpha Airports Group employees have been nominated as “˜Alpha Heroes’ for the 2005 event – more than double the number that entered into the inaugural competition.
Alpha Heroes is an ambitious employee recognition programme first launched by Alpha Retail. This time, all parts of Alpha’s UK, Ireland and Channel Islands business are included in the awards scheme, from shop floors to flight kitchens and support staff.
The company said that 942 individual and 389 team nominations (some 1,945 people) were received from Alpha’s 4,500 strong workforce in the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands.
Independent assessor Travel Retail Training (TRT) has evaluated each entry and created a shortlist of the most outstanding to progress to the next stage.
Before the end of January, TRT’s teams of interviewers will visit every Alpha business unit to interview the people who made the successful nominations, giving them the opportunity to further put their case as to why their nominees deserve to be Alpha Heroes.
Once every interview has taken place, Alpha will announce a list of finalists who will be invited to the glittering finale in Birmingham on 4 April.
Group Communications Director Avril Appleyard said: “The number of nominations for Heroes shows the great regard with which so many of Alpha’s staff are regarded by their colleagues. There have been some wonderful examples of people prepared to go that extra mile on the entry forms and in the interviews.
“Behind the scenes, the wheels are in motion to make the event a night to remember for everyone who attends.”
Alpha Heroes is the largest staff recognition scheme in the industry. It has once again received significant support from Alpha’s corporate partners. Lancaster Group, BAT and Imperial are among the companies backing the scheme for the second year running, and new sponsors include Pernod Ricard World Trade, P&G and Unilever Cosmetics.
