American Airlines posts big increase in traffic

US. American Airlines flew 9.8 billion revenue passenger miles in January, a +3.8% increase compared with January 2003. This increase in traffic was driven by an +11.6% increase in international traffic and a +15.7% increase in travel to Latin America.

American flew 14.2 billion available seat miles, a +0.8% increase in capacity for the month compared with the same month last year.

In January, American’s load factor – the percentage of seats filled – was 68.9%, 2 points higher than January 2003. The company boarded 7 million passengers last month, a -1% decrease from January 2003.
