Luxury fragrance house Amouage has expanded its Purpose collection with the introduction of Purpose 50 Exceptional Extrait. The fragrance, designed to deepen its connection to Oman’s heritage through the use of Frankincense, launches in global travel retail in February.
The Extrait is a darker version of the original Purpose Eau de Parfum. It was composed by Master Perfumer Quentin Bisch under the guidance of Amouage’s Chief Creative Officer Renaud Salmon.
“It’s not that we felt we wanted to fix something in the Eau de Parfum, or that something was missing from it,” Salmon explained. “However, we found ourselves constantly going back to the scent and thinking about it – as though it was calling out to us for further exploration.
“Finally, after many discussions, we had a clear vision of where we wanted to take Purpose next. We had to make an Extrait.”
The fragrance captures the essence of a frankincense tree in its entirety from its roots and branches to its resin-laden bark.
It opens with a burst of pink pepper, reminiscent of the Eau de Parfum, followed by frankincense heart notes that offer a mineral character. It closes with sand vetiver, papyrus and saffron base notes.
These elements – though similar to the composition of the Eau de Parfum – are reimagined in Purpose 50 Exceptional Extrait as a more grounded and earthy olfactory signature. ✈
