Amsterdam Schiphol opens new ‘world reading’ concept AKO Books & Travel

Displays from brands including Lonely Planet and National Geographic emphasise the link between travel and reading

NETHERLANDS. Schiphol Group has announced the arrival of new books store AKO Books & Travel, a 200sq m outlet in Arrival Hall 4 at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The outlet, which emphasises the link between travel and reading, is a collaboration between Schiphol, books retailer AKO and designer Tjep.

The shop carries an extensive range of books in Dutch and English, with shop-in-shop concepts from relevant brands including Lonely Planet and National Geographic. The product range, distinctive design and modern furniture all evoke the spirit of “˜world reading’; features include reading corners with flying reading lamps and counters shaped like stacks of books.

The airport group said: “The new shop focuses on the link between travel and reading, taking into account the unique travel retail location of Schiphol. AKO joined forces with Schipol and Tjep to develop this unique concept with the common aim of being able to reach travel shoppers even better than before.”
