In addition to the advertising, the firm has developed a new tower display unit and a flexible promotional programme with prizes where you can win a modern Frances Frances espresso machine. |
DENMARK. Chocolate Coffee Dreams is the new product innovation from Anthon Berg, the Toms Confectionery Group brand.
Capitalising on the company’s famous chocolate liqueurs, the mocha chocolates are presented in a latte glass shape and filled with a liquid coffee centre. No other confectionery brand produces chocolate shaped like a latte glass where you can drink a shot of coffee, the company claims.
Chocolate Coffee Dreams is available in assorted packs; a 250g box for travel retailers will be available from April 2005.
The five coffee flavours are Cappuccino, Espresso, Vanilla Frappé, Toffee Macchiato, and Irish Cream Coffee. Each piece, foil wrapped in a 12.6g size, contains 55% cocoa.
The mocha taste comes from natural ingredients-no coffee flavouring is used, says the firm. However, to keep the chocolates non-alcoholic and with liquid centres, flavourings were used for the secondary flavours such as Irish Cream and Toffee.
Toms tested the product over 18 months, and although the liquid centres have a high water content, the shelf life is 12 months.
To support the launch, Toms has developed a fresh advertising format with an emotional appeal. It said: “We’ve chosen a coffee shop atmosphere and an attractive woman enjoying a glass of latte to enhance the sensation of this new chocolate coffee experience.”
In addition to the advertising, the firm has developed a new tower display unit and a flexible promotional programme with prizes where you can win a modern Frances Frances espresso machine.

ABOUT TOMS CONFECTIONERY GROUP
Toms Confectionery Group is Denmark’s largest confectionery producer, holding 33% market share of total confectionery sales in Denmark, and a growing market share in other Scandinavian countries. One of the first confectionery companies to enter the travel retail market, Toms has been well represented in the sector since the 1950s. Toms sells European-style confectionery worldwide, and is best known for the Anthon Berg brand. To ensure quality, Toms makes its own chocolate and most semi-finished products such as caramel and marzipan.
Anthon Berg is a Danish brand of chocolate aimed at sophisticated, adult consumers. In 1884, Anthon Berg began selling chocolates from his grocery in Copenhagen. His confections soon became popular among high society and in the royal courts. He set the standard for quality and attention to detail. After many years, his son passed the company to Toms Confectionery Group. The group’s other brands include Toms Chocolate, Pingvin, Pingo, Galle&Jessen, Webes, BonBon, O/zon and Taveners.
