Anthon Berg revamps and extends established travel retail favourites

Danish chocolate brand Anthon Berg launched a new look and flavour for its Fruit in Marzipan range and a line extension for its Sweet Moments tubes at last week’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

Blueberry in Vodka is the latest addition to Anthon Berg’s Fruit in Marzipan range which includes: Plum in Madeira, Strawberry in Champagne, Apricot in Brandy, Raspberry in Orange Liqueur and Cherry in Rum. The individually wrapped chocolates come in a 220g box, comprising 8 pieces, and a travel retail exclusive 440g box containing 16 pieces. Fruit in Marzipan packaging has been upgraded to include a light Scandinavian look with clear images of the fruit and will be on-shelf from May 2016.

According to Anthon Berg, its Fruit in Marzipan range has been a bestseller for more than half a century in the Nordic domestic markets and in global travel retail.

Anthon Berg Travel Retail Director Peter Dige said: “The wild blueberry is a Nordic delicacy and taps right into the new Nordic gourmet trend that is sweeping across the globe. The wild blueberry ranks second on the international berry favourite list, only outplayed by the strawberry. So we have no doubts this product will fly off shelves.”

He added: “The Fruit in Marzipan is a demonstration of what we pride ourselves on at Anthon Berg: homemade marzipan, homemade fruit in liqueur fillings and high quality dark chocolate made from 100% traceable and ethically sourced cocoa beans.”

Anthon Berg also revealed in Cannes its new Soft Line, an extension of its Sweet Moments tubes of chocolate discs. Described as “little treats with a big potential”, the 100g tubes come in mint green, golden and brown metallic-look designs and will be available from May 2016.

Flavours include Sweet Moments Soft Mint, a dark chocolate disc with a sugar fondant filling with peppermint oil and bourbon vanilla, Sweet Moments Soft Ginger, featuring bits and juices of ginger root, and Sweet Moments Soft Caramel and Sea Salt.

“When the product line Sweet Moments was first launched in 2011 it was an instant success and has delivered beyond expectations,” noted Dige. “We are launching the Sweet Moments Soft to ride the wave of success of the Sweet Moments line. It is an add-on product line that fits right into the existing Sweet Moments product line and does not need special attention and explanation to fly off shelves.”

Other Sweet Moments lines include Milk, Nougat, Caramel, Marzipan Mini Bars, Marzipan Collection and the Truffle Collection.

Speaking to The Moodie Report in Cannes, Anthon Berg Senior Brand Manager Karina Fogh Terkildsen said that the company’s strongest markets are Asia and Russia. She added that the brand is focusing on global travel retail growth, with the USA as a priority.
