Aphrodite Duty Free has a strong existing presence in the Port of Beirut, serving ship chandlers, UN military forces and embassies as well as passengers transiting through what is dubbed the gateway to the Middle East. The port was badly damaged by a series of explosions on 4 August 2020, which killed 204 people and injured 6,500.

The retailer – which has been running duty free stores since 1994 – is led by CEO Karl Raphael.
