UK. Digital verification technology company APPII has formed a partnership with McKesson Group’s MASTA (Medical Advisory Services for Travellers Abroad) and Coforge to launch a COVID-19 PCR test via a new app, named iiPass. Its creator believes it will play a leading role in accelerating the recovery of the UK travel industry.
APPII, which has 20 years’ experience managing British Airways’ IT operating system, says the first-of-its-kind test will be digitally verified, fully integrated and underpinned by EMIS technology.

Customers can book and pay for their tests on the iiPass app. Individual test results and QR code certificates are verified and stored in the app, offering users secure, digital access to results.
The QR code results can then be scanned by organisations such as airports to determine the individual’s test status and whether iiPass users can continue with their desired activity.
“These tests and trusted results will be available across the UK to those who need it most – from key workers to struggling industries. As we move to reinstate international travel and increase vaccination rates, our solution can also be harnessed to provide secure vaccine certification” – APPII Managing Director and Co-founder Gary McKay
iiPass also provides fraud prevention assurance and users can upload a selfie and photo of an identity document (passport or driver’s licence) which is processed by biometric identity provider GBG.

The tests can initially be booked at eight MASTA travel clinics nationally. MASTA is the chosen UK provider of COVID-19 tests and verification for international travel and partners of organisations including the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the NHS.
The service is due to expand to more than 200 Lloyds Pharmacy branches across the UK over the coming weeks.
APPII said that with the new app’s ability to biometrically verify users from over 180 countries and 600 photo ID documents, its technology is fully scalable for international travel with the infrastructure in place to host vaccine certificates as needed.
APPII Managing Director and Co-founder Gary McKay said: “Security and trust are at the heart of APPII’s iiPass COVID-19 app. Through our partnerships with some of the UK’s most trusted and accredited service providers, we have developed an affordable, simple, and fully verifiable testing solution, that can be used by businesses, governments, and the public alike.
“Our biometric identity checks make the test results in our app the safest on the market, with the possibility for fraudulent results eliminated.”

He added: “Our partnership with MASTA means these tests and trusted results will be available across the UK to those who need it most – from key workers to struggling industries. As we move to reinstate international travel and increase vaccination rates, our solution can also be harnessed to provide secure vaccine certification.
“It’s clear we will be living with this virus for years to come so there’s an urgent need for innovation and technology that facilitates the safe return to more normal daily life. At APPII, it’s our mission to be part of this solution, and to provide the systems and infrastructures that help the UK economy back on its feet, as well as getting us back to doing the things we love.”
