SPAIN. Travel restaurateur and retailer Areas has unveiled a new bar concept named Bareto in Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport Terminal 2. The venture is a partnership with bar/café brand Bareto, which operates two popular establishments in the Spanish capital.
The 331sq m space has capacity for 104 diners. It specialises in Spanish beers complemented by a variety of local culinary options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a tapas selection.

The restaurant’s highlight dishes include Madrid-style spicy potatoes, a calamari sandwich featuring ciabatta bread and Bareto’s own special spicy alioli sauce, flamenquín (ham-wrapped pork loins), gildas (olive, pepper and fish tapas, including Bareto’s own version with octopus), and matrimonios (dark and white anchovy sandwiches).
Bareto’s two downtown Madrid locations can be found on Calle de Atocha and Calle de Alcalá. The latter venue is on the site of the former Correos brewery, which became famous for hosting politicians, writers and artists in the 1960s.

Bareto is one of multiple new openings for Areas at Madrid-Barajas Airport as part of a food & beverage contract which, as reported, is the largest-ever in Spanish airport history.
The company will invest €15 million in developing 35 of the 55 points of sale tendered by operator Aena, a programme it successfully secured earlier this year. The business is expected to realise the company more than €1 billion in revenue over the eight-year contract duration. ![]()
