US. Travel concessionaire Areas USA has opened the Pompano Beach service plaza along Florida’s Turnpike following a US$16 million upgrade of the facility.
The project is part of a larger US$163 million overhaul encompassing all eight of the toll road’s service plazas, last upgraded in 1988.
Food concepts at Pompano Beach include a new Dunkin’ Donuts, Wendy’s and Pizza Hut. The convenience store/fuel station, now merged with the restaurant building, offers deli-style sandwiches, fresh pastries, and a wide selection of snack foods, soft drinks, and bottled and flavoured water.

“We are so proud to introduce the new building along with its wide variety of food and retail offerings along one of the busiest turnpikes in the world,” said Areas USA CEO Xavier Rabell. “The quality of our designs and build outs, along with the strength of the new brands, reflect our ongoing commitment to bringing the very best products and services to our customers traveling along Florida’s Turnpike.”
Areas USA Director of Turnpike Operations Erik Bellsolell added: “Areas USA is proud to be a part of one of the busiest turnpikes in the country. We feel the new building, its designs and amenities, along with nationally recognised brands will be a welcome addition to Florida’s Turnpike. We look forward to serving our guests for many years to come.”
The new building has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the US Green Building Council, providing independent third-party verification that a building was designed and built to high standards of human and environmental health. LEED criteria include sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
