QATAR. Hamad International Airport has reported passenger numbers more than doubling year-on-year to reach 35,734,243 in 2022. This represents +101.9% of the 2021 number and 92.1% of the pre-pandemic 2019 total.
The airport also saw an increase in overall aircraft movements to 217,875, a +28.2% growth compared to 2021. The year concluded with 44 airline partners operating to and from the Doha hub, serving over 170 destinations around the world.

Traffic numbers were bolstered in 2022 by Qatar staging the FIFA World Cup. The year also saw phase A of the Hamad International expansion project come to fruition and the airport being named ‘Best Airport in the World’ for the second year in a row by the prestigious Skytrax Airport Awards.
Reflecting on 2022, Hamad International Airport Chief Operating Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer said: “The year 2022 will remain a significant and memorable year as Hamad International Airport maintained operational excellence as our passenger and aircraft movements increased.
“This is attributed to our forward-thinking and preparedness for the expected increase in passenger numbers, investing in our people to deliver the best customer experience to our passengers.
“For the year 2023, phase B of our expansion plan started in January, as a part of our strategy to further increase our airline and commercial partners and introduce more bespoke retail and F&B offerings for passengers.”
When the phase B growth plan is executed, Hamad International will have an increased capacity of over 70 million passengers. Two new concourses are being constructed within the existing terminal as part of the project.
