Aviation security update: Philippines gives green light to LAGs – 17/07/07

PHILIPPINES. In an important update to a story we carried last week, travellers arriving in the Philippines and transferring to another flight are not permitted to carry any liquids, gels or aerosols (LAGs) over 100ml through transfer security screening points.

Passengers will either have to repack any duty free LAGs over 100ml into their checked luggage or forfeit their LAGs.

Last week we also reported that the Philippines had decided to lift the total ban on LAGs in carry-on luggage, effective 1 August. But there will now be a delay in implementing this new rule.

Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association Board Member in charge of LAGs Rakhita Jayawardena said: “We have received confirmation from the Philippines that the Manila International Airport Authority has sent an order to use the ICAO approved STEBs (Sealed Tamper Evident Bags) as soon as possible.

“However, due to production lead times from the manufacturer the implementation of the STEBs will only come into effect 15 weeks from now.

“Currently no LAGs are allowed through Check-in and all items purchased at the duty free shops are placed in a sealable plastic bags temporarily developed by Duty Free Philippines.”
