BRAZIL. Avolta Brazil is to open a second Brazilian border store before the end of June, CEO Gustavo Fagundes revealed today at the ASUTIL 2025 conference in Lima, Peru.
Fagundes said Avolta is committed to advancing border retail in Brazil and that it will continue investing in innovation and operational excellence.
“We will bring the best of Avolta to one space offering shoppers a premium sensory and seamless experience connecting the best brands with customer needs and desires,” he said.
Fagundes said the 1,000sq m store will open within the next few weeks in Shopping Catuaí Palladium, a popular mall in Foz do Iguaçu, the border town adjacent to the Brazilian borders with Paraguay and Argentina.
Fagundes confirmed the store will offer all key duty-free categories to Brazilian and international tourists. Avolta will leverage the extensive experience it has gained from running an 850sq m store in Uruguaiana in Rio Grande do Sul since 2019.
The Foz do Iguaçu store will be Avolta’s third non-airport store in Latin America. Only two months ago, the world’s number one travel retailer opened a 500sq m duty-free store at the international bridge crossing that links the Uruguayan town of Fray Bentos with Gualeguaychú in Argentina.
Avolta won the concession to operate the duty-free store at the crossing last year but had since been operating in a small temporary store vacated by Darok the previous incumbent.
Avolta operates arrivals and departures stores in various airports across Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Ecuador. ✈
