SRI LANKA. Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has launched its mega seasonal promotion called the BIA Christmas Shopping Festival for the third year.
First held in 2010, the shopping festival is organised as a collective effort between Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited (AASL) and the airport’s concessionaires.
This year’s event kicked off on 1 December and will run until 31 January.
As part of the promotion, passengers who spend US$10 or more at any of the shops in the Departure/Transit area or Arrivals Duty Free Complex will be entitled to enter the lucky draw.
Eleven prizes will be on offer – the grand prize of a Panda Cross car, and ten other prizes including laptops, refrigerators, LCD television sets and washing machines.
The grand prize is sponsored by Micro Car Companies Ltd; the other prizes by E.W. Information Systems Ltd, Abans (Pvt) Ltd, Uniwalkers (Pvt) Ltd (Softlogic), Siedles (Pvt) Ltd and Singer (Sri Lanka) Plc, who are leading brand agents in Sri Lanka.
Nations Trust Bank and Etisalat have also come on board as main sponsors of the event.
All taxes associated with the winning monies will be borne by AASL.
The promotion was designed to be “as simple as possible”, said AASL, with the cost of the minimum transaction set at US$10 to make it viable for all travellers to participate.
AASL hopes to make BIA “a shopping destination” among travellers, in a step forward in making Sri Lanka an aviation hub.
Passengers in the Departure/Transit area who make purchase using their American Express cards or spend US$50 or more also have the opportunity to win instant prizes daily by trying their luck at the “˜Wheel of Fortune’ in addition to their entitlement to enter the lucky draw.
