Bangalore International Airport attracts star-studded short list for retail and F&B – 01/09/06

INDIA. Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) has unveiled a star-studded shortlist for the main duty free, travel retail and food & beverage concessions at the greenfield airport due to be operational by April 2008.

International companies contesting the various packages include DFS Group, Dufry, Alpha, Gebr Heinemann (with local partner The Oberoi Group), Nuance (with local partner Shopper’s Stop), SSP and HMSHost. Besides Oberoi and Shopper’s Stop, other strong Indian contestants include Pantaloon, one of the country’s fastest-growing and most-respected domestic market retailers.

BIAL is the owner and operator of the future airport, with a concession to operate the airport for a period of 60 years. BIAL is in turn owned by a majority of private shareholders, including Zürich Airport. The management responsibility lies however with BIAL and Zürich Airport acts as a consultant.

Bangalore is currently the fourth biggest airport in India, and also among the fastest growing.

It’s going to be extremely exciting here in Bangalore with some very creative submissions from the leading international companies and the top Indian players.
