Beauty Contact makes inroads with Cadillac – 09/06/09

New to the Cadillac Fragrances portfolio is the limited edition, masculine scent called Cadillac Black

UAE. Beauty Contact exhibited for the second year running at TFWA Asia Pacific, focusing on two key fragrance brands: Cadillac and Madonna nude(s) 1979.

The Dubai-based company is the sole global licensee and worldwide distributor for Cadillac Fragrances. It recently signed the licence to design, develop, produce and distribute Madonna nude(s) 1979 Fragrances.

Cadillac Fragrances

Making its second appearance at the TFWA Asia Pacific show, Cadillac is the first men’s fragrance from the General Motors-owned luxury vehicle brand.

The fragrance was also presented at both the TFWA World Exhibition and the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas in 2007 and 2008. It was also on show at Middle East Exclusive 2007.

Available as an Edt (12% concentration) and Edp (16%), the former has garnered more interest in Asia where consumers prefer lighter fragrances, Beauty Contact President and CEO Alwyn Stephen pointed out to The Moodie Report. The heavier Edp found audiences particularly in the Middle East and South America.

Production of the fragrance will start this month and ship by mid-July. Beauty Contact will first focus on launching in the Middle East, where Stephen hopes to capture a share of the market by the Ramadan season in September.

Following the Middle East will be North America, while shipping to Asia will take place around September or October, Stephen revealed.

The Cadillac fragrance is available in a two-piece travel retail gift set, which includes a 50ml Edt and a 50ml aftershave

The highlight for Cadillac Fragrances next month is a launch event in Beverly Hills, California. “We’re inviting about ten Hollywood celebrities to come. The fragrance is going to be launched within a Cadillac dealership, so we’re going to pick up the celebrities and the press in Cadillac limousines. This will take place around July 18 or 19, after which we’ll be doing another launch event in Canada, Toronto,” Stephen said.

Cadillac retails domestically at US$66 for the 100ml Edt, while the 50ml retails at US$52. Its price in travel retail will be about -10% to -15% lower.

Beauty Contact is working on travel retail exclusive gift sets for the Cadillac fragrance. Among these is a two-piece edition which includes a 50ml Edt and a 50ml aftershave spray in a hard case box. It will launch in September/October, and it has a domestic retail price of US$88. Also available is a four-piece set comprising a 50ml Edt, a 50ml aftershave, a 200ml hair and body wash, and a 75g deodorant. It also comes in a hard box and retails at US$118.

Besides exclusive gift sets, Beauty Contact will also introduce unique gwps for the travel retail channel. Domestic promotions have featured baseball caps and mugs, but for travel retail Stephen is considering collector’s items such as miniature toy cars. The company is still working on designs and results will probably take a couple of months, he told The Moodie Report.

New to the Cadillac Fragrances portfolio is another masculine scent called Cadillac Black. Available as a limited-edition, a new colour will be launched every year.

A feminine Cadillac fragrance is also in the pipeline, and will be presented at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes later this year.

Stephen is banking on the widespread appeal of the Cadillac brand. “I think Cadillac is the caviar of all the car brands – it’s a name to reckon with, a household name, and an American icon.

“For me, the most promising regions are the US and the Middle East, because Cadillac is a huge name there with the cars alone; it’s very popular.” Canada and South America also bode well for the brand, he added.

Madonna Nude(s) 1979

Madonna nude(s) 1979 Fragrances made its debut at the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition as a new addition to the Beauty Contact portfolio. Roll out begins this month.

As reported, Madonna was a nude model for New York photographer Martin Hugo Maximilien Schreiber in February 1979, before she found global fame. She granted to him all the rights on her photos, and authorisation to use them in association with her name for any purpose in a signed model release.

In 1985, when Madonna became famous, Schreiber made contract with Playboy magazine, and his Madonna photos were published in the September issue.

In 1990, he published the album “Madonna nudes 1979”, in conjunction with German company Taschen, and in 2001 the album “Madonna nude1979” in partnership with US company Long Wind Publishing.

In December 1994, Schreiber appointed Francis Clement, a French business consultant based in Tokyo, as exclusive worldwide Master-Licensee, in charge of promoting “Madonna nude(s) 1979” copyrights for licensing, advertising and franchising activities.

Between 1994 and 2008, various licenses have been granted, such as ladies/men’s underwear, innerwear, stockings, T-shirts, apparel, costume jewellery, handbags, sunglasses, condoms, beach wear and jeans.

Now Beauty Contact is launching its first Madonna Nudes 1979 Fragrances, one for men and one for women.

The men’s fragrance, which retails at US$38, comes in black packaging. It features top notes of citron, grapefruit peel, and olive blossom, leading to a heart of star anise, cardamom and Tonka bean. Base notes contain tobacco, teak and musk.

The female fragrance, retailing at US$42, is packaged in a red bottle. It contains top notes of tangerine, pomegranate and lotus petals, with heart notes of orange flower, magnolia and gardenia. Base notes include atlas cedar, amber, and cashmere musk.
