Belvédère’s Sobieski Vodka |
DENMARK. Belvédère Duty Free, which celebrated its first birthday on 1 August, has achieved its goal of revitalising flagship brand Danzka Vodka in global travel retail.
“We have achieved a lot since we started from scratch a year ago,” said Belvédère Duty Free Regional Director (Americas and Nordic) Torben Vedel Andersen.
“We have re-established a network for Danzka vodka in most global duty free markets. We have turned around the sales trend 180 degrees for the brand and are well under way to bring Danzka vodka back into the forefront of traveling consumers’ minds.”
The stylised aluminium Danzka packaging, cited by Andersen as “a unique competitive advantage in travel retail” especially amid the current aviation security crisis, seemed to have given Belvédère Duty Free the edge it had been looking for, he said.

“It has been a wonderful year, in which the foundation to a bright future has been laid down,” says Belvédère Duty Free Regional Director Torben Vedel Andersen (right), pictured with Managing Director Wojtek Wydro. |
Made of brushed aluminium, the packaging is lightweight, safe and ideal for putting into air travellers’ checked luggage without fear of breakage, said Andersen.
Sales of Danzka, led by its four flavoured lines (Citron, Black Currant, Grapefruit and Cranberyraz), have exceeded forecasts. The company claims it is currently the fourth best-selling premium vodka in global duty free.
The past year has also seen widened distribution for Danzka buoyed by new customers in Scandinavia, Europe and the Americas, added Andersen.
In related news, Sobieski and Sobieski Estate vodka, another significant part of Belvédère’s wine and spirits portfolio, gained several listings in Europe and the Americas.
The year ahead seems set to bring more exciting developments for Belvédère Duty Free as group brands Marie Brizard and Cognac Gautier are now “fully integrated”. Belvédère can now offer the duty free channel “˜one-stop shopping’ for all its brands, said Andersen.
Belvédère Duty Free will exhibit at this year’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, beginning 21 October (Booth H52).
