Big boost for Compass Group as it lands new seven-year F&B contract at Zurich-Kloten Airport – 20/07/05

SWITZERLAND. The three staff restaurants at Zurich-Kloten Airport will continue to be run by Compass Group (Schweiz) on a new long-term contract, airport management announced yesterday.

The agreement starts on 1 January 2006 and runs for seven years (with an optional two-year extension). It budgets for a turnover of over CHF 100 million (US$77 million).

Unique Airport Zurich said it chose Compass Group for its extensive experience in the airport business and the proven flexibility and track record of its staff.

“This is a strategically important contract for our employees and our company to win. We are very proud and grateful that Unique has entrusted us for the years to come with catering for the employees of more than 180 companies at Unique Airport Zurich”, commented Jonathan Stent Torriani, Chairman of Compass Group (Schweiz) AG.

The new contract covers the three staff restaurants in terminal one, in the Operation Centre and “˜s’Werkhöfli’ located at the head office of Unique.

The restaurants included will all undergo comprehensive refurbishment and will be enhanced with improved ambience, innovative ideas and exciting new offerings.

“These are the main reasons why we decided to continue working with Compass Group”, said Peter Eriksson, Marketing Director of Unique. “In addition there are the many years of good co-operation, the quality of the work and the commitment of the restaurant staff, the international airport know-how and frequently proven flexibility of Compass Group.” The company has been running the restaurant in T1 since 1961.

In the coming months all three restaurants will undergo a multi-million Swiss Franc refurbishment. The restaurant in Terminal 1 will be given a new free-flow design in the style of a market place. Compass Group is also planning a Deli Counter with snacks and sandwiches as well as an Italian “˜Barista’ coffee bar.

The restaurant in the Operations Centre will receive a significant face-lift. The décor, ambience, and range of items on offer will all be improved, while a new coffee bar will be built on the ground floor of the building. The slogan here is Closer to the cus-tomer. Coffee, beverages, sandwiches and snacks will be available on the ground floor for flight and ground staff.

Designed by Pia Schmid, the “˜s’Werkhöfli restaurant in the Unique One building in Rümlang will also undergo a number of changes. A new look, a new terrace seating area as well as a revamp of the existing pergola with an additional grill house for the summer time are planned.

Beside the three restaurants, Compass Group (Schweiz) also runs restaurant Papa’s, Balsberg, SR Technics in Zurich Kloten airport, the Bill Bentley Pub, situated in the Airport Shopping Centre as well as all the restaurants and bars in the Airside Centre and in Dock E.
