HONG KONG. The Hong Kong carrier Dragonair says traffic on its Bangkok-Hong Kong route fell in the past four weeks after it cancelled five of its 14 scheduled weekly flights due to the bird flu scare.
The airline’s general manager for Southeast Asia James Yeung, said business was down -30% since mid-February as a result of the outbreak.
However, traffic has begun to revive and the airline is again offering two flights a day on its Hong Kong-Bangkok route.
Since the launch of the service in November, the airline had a 70% load factor on the route, but the figure dropped to 50-60% last month.
Yeung said: “It’s not only because of the bird flu but the peak season ended after the Chinese New Year in January, so it’s because of the low season coupled with the bird flu impact.”
