SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free’s 31st Family Concert, held online yesterday (6 May) attracted 3 million views, up +36% on last year’s event.
A glittering K-pop line-up included Super Junior-D&E, BTS, Twice, Itzy, Tomorrow x Together (TXT) and others. South Korean rapper, singer, dancer, MC, and radio star Shindong hosted the concert.
This year’s Family Concert was dedicated to comforting people around the world in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic while also underlining Lotte Duty Free’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) mission.
“With the support of customers around the world, we were able to successfully host the 31st Lotte Duty Free Family Concert,” said Lotte Duty Free CEO Kap Lee in announcing the record audience.
The pre-recorded concert was provided in six languages, including Korean and English, simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese. Around 700,000 new members joined Lotte Duty Free to watch the performance, of whom 91% were foreigners.
The event deployed ‘Meta-verse Entertech’ technology, using the latest AR (Augmented Reality) & XR (Extended Reality) in collaboration with South Korean entertainment and mass media company CJ ENM.
Through this technology, the Family Concert provided an enhanced experience and offered viewers the feeling of being at a live event rather than a virtual one, Lotte Duty Free said
The concert was promoted with the slogan ‘Meet the green vibes, Greet the duty free life’, implying, ‘If you want to protect our travel, let’s protect our planet first.’
Before the performance, Lotte Duty Free outlined its eco-friendly management principles, social contribution, and strengthened fair trade compliance system.
Performing artists also highlighted Lotte Duty Free’s eco-friendly campaign ‘#Duty4Earth’, encouraging environmental protection and expressing their expectations for the restoration of free travel in the future.
