‘Born from science, made in Iceland’: Bioeffect to debut EGF ‘Wonder Serum’ in Cannes

Icelandic skincare brand Bioeffect will be showcasing its EGF ‘Wonder Serum’ and other travel retail exclusives at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes (booth C17 Yellow Village).

The company will be also introducing two new products to its EGF range, the EGF Essence and the Imprinting Hydrogel Mask.

Bioeffect’s slogan  ‘Born from Science, made in Iceland’ stems from its own scientific origins. The company was founded by three Icelandic scientists who — after a decade of intensive research — discovered a way to bioengineer Epidermal Growth Factor or EGF in barley plants. It claims to be the first and only skincare brand in the world to do so.

The brand’s EGF range rejuvenates skin cells and slows the ageing process, by boosting the body’s natural supply of EGF.

‘Born from Science, made in Iceland’: Bioeffect’s EGF ‘Wonder Serum’ was created by three Icelandic scientists who discovered a way to bioengineer a plant-based replica of EGF in barley plants.

EGF is one of the human body’s most important natural growth factors. It promotes youthful and healthy skin by boosting collagen and elastin production. However, EGF production slows down with age, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. Bioeffect’s flagship EGF Serum was launched nine years ago and has been proven to improve skin thickness by up to 60% and increase skin density by up to 30%, said the company. Today, its EGF range is made up of 13 different biotech skincare products.

All of Bioeffect’s EGF products are sustainably sourced in the brand’s ecologically engineered greenhouse in the lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula. The greenhouse is 2,000sq m in size and can house up to 130,000 barley plants at a time. Inside, the plants are grown in mineral-rich volcanic pumice, and enriched with Icelandic water.

In an independent double-blind split-faced study, Bioeffect’s flagship EGF Serum improved skin thickness by up to 60% and increase skin density by up to 30%.  According to the brand, its EGF Serum is the no.1 best-selling skincare brand onboard Icelandair, British Airways, ANA, Japan Airlines, Finnair and in Icelandic duty free. This year, the brand introduced two new products, the EGF Essence, and the Imprinting Hydrogel Mask.

The EGF Essence is a lightweight facial essence that hydrates the skin, while the Imprinting Hydrogel Mask is a two-piece hydrogel mask enhanced with Hyaluronic Acid. Both products were designed to maximise the EGF efficacy of Bioeffect’s serums.
