EUROPE. Bottega has partnered with Lagardère Travel Retail to unveil a Bottega Prosecco Bar at Basel Mulhouse Freiburg Airport. It launched last month on 29 November.
As reported, Lagardère Travel Retail France won a tender to operate five new food & beverage venues at Basel Mulhouse Freiburg Airport under a six-year contract.
The airport – situated in Saint-Louis, France; 4.7km west of the France, Germany and Switzerland tripoint – serves just under 8 million passengers annually and nearly 100 scheduled flights daily.
The Prosecco Bar serves as a showcase for Italy’s wine and food traditions, offering a premium yet informal experience inspired by Venetian ‘bacaro’ culture. Bacaro is an informal osteria where food is presented both as ‘cicheti’ or appetisers and as main dishes. The concept focuses on pairing regional Italian dishes with versatile Italian wines, including Prosecco.
First launched in 2014 aboard the Viking Group’s Cinderella ship, the Bottega Prosecco Bar format has since expanded to international airports, hotels and leisure destinations globally. Existing locations include Rome Fiumicino, Dubai, Venice, Istanbul, London Stansted, Birmingham, Prague (two facilities in two different terminals), Abu Dhabi, Budapest, Bologna and Milan Malpensa airports. It is also present at the two Bulgarian airports Burgas and Varna.
The concept’s popularity stems from its ‘Bottega Bacaro’ or ‘Perfect Match’ philosophy, pairing traditional Italian cuisine with Bottega’s extensive range of wines & spirits. These include Prosecco, prestigious red wines such as Amarone, Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, dessert wines, a selection of white and barrique Grappas, and fruit-based liqueurs.
Recent additions to the menu reflect changing consumer preferences, including vegan, organic and alcohol-free options, as well as signature cocktails, such as the Lemon Spritz crafted by expert bartenders.
Bottega S.p.A President Sandro Bottega commented: “The opening of the Prosecco Bar in Basel strengthens our format and further consolidates the fruitful cooperation with the Lagardère Group, which manages the location.
“Our strength lies in our ability to offer travellers high standards of service to enjoy some of the most popular dishes of Italian cuisine, paired with our wines. We also want to strengthen our presence in the world of aperitifs and gourmet breaks by creating a sort of educational experience on Made in Italy food and wine culture.” ✈
