HUNGARY. Budapest Airport has opened three new outlets with key partners that round out the commercial offer at the recently completed 11,500sq m Pier 1 facility. Heinemann Duty Free, Relay (Lapker Zrt) and Café Frei have unveiled units in the pier, which is dedicated to Schengen traffic. The overall zone features extensive space and a wooden façade, and is one element of the airport’s ambitious development and expansion project.
Heinemann now runs six stores at the airport, where it has been present for over a decade. As well as core categories, the store offers a regionals concept with ‘Made in Hungary’ assortments and local hero brands.
“We are very proud to extend our business at Budapest Airport with the opening of our new Pier 1 Heinemann Duty Free & Travel Value shop. Budapest Airport is an extremely committed partner with a long-term focus. For this reason, we are a great match for each other on continuously designing a tailor-made shopping experience at the airport,” said Ildikó Jankovich, Managing Director of Heinemann Duty Free Budapest.
Featuring more than 70 different coffee recipes, Café Frei claimed to offer a ‘trip around the world for your palate’. At the ribbon-cutting event, Café Frei CEO Dóra Szeles exclaimed: “We are delighted that Café Frei is now present in both piers at Budapest Airport. We can serve the world’s favourite coffees to all passengers benefitting from the airport’s development.”
Lapker Zrt. now operates six Relay outlets offering news and books at Budapest Airport. “We’re over-joyed that our company can now also welcome passengers at Budapest’s newest passenger hall,” said Lapker Zrt CCO András Rácz at the official opening.
Budapest Airport Head of Retail and Property Management Dr. Patrick Bohl said: “Budapest Airport has always been committed in supporting our commercial partners, and we will continue to do so by providing the framework and environment to allow them to grow their business and provide great retail at our airport.”
Bohl added: “During the hardest moments of the pandemic we didn’t stop focusing on our tenants, ensuring they had our support to enhance the passenger experience at Budapest as this is ultimately a common interest – our joint effort brings about joint success. We pay continuous attention to the product selection and services at our airport, maintaining and strengthening our regional competitiveness.”
