CANADA. Airports across Canada celebrated the inaugural Airport Workers Day yesterday (26 June), in recognition of the people who “go the extra mile every day to keep Canada moving” and their contribution to local communities and the economy.
The celebrations were part of a national event led by the Canadian Airport Council (CAC), in coordination with 35 airports where festivities took place throughout the day. CAC predicts that more than 150 million passengers will travel through Canada’s airports this year, creating 200,000 direct airport jobs.
CAC honoured five workers with Canadian Airports 2024 awards. They included:
- Leanna Anderson from Halifax-Stanfield – Operational Excellence
- Alistair Stewart from Air Canada at Toronto Pearson – Industry Champion
- Marcos Zambrano from Toronto Pearson – Environmental Steward
- Adam Lo Bianco from Fort McMurray International Airport – Outstanding Leadership
- Emily Parsons from Vancouver International Airport – Outstanding Service.
CAC President Monette Pasher said: “By celebrating the dynamic and diverse people who work in our airports, we aim to shine a light on the many career opportunities that are possible within Canada’s aviation sector.
“Airport Workers Day represents our gratitude for the more than 200,000 people who work, day in and day out, to keep Canadians and our economy moving.” ✈
