Cannes buyers urged to go to Mars – 06/09/05

UK. “Straightforward quality” is the watchword and secret weapon to sales success, according to Masterfoods International Travel Retail (MITR) as it announced its line-up for this year’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes (Green Village, Stand M71).

Seven new packs will be introduced for 2005/06:

For sharing:
– Maltesers Mixed 400g Box – includes a mix of both white and plain chocolates.
– Starburst Fruity Chews Jar 600g – a large, colourful jar to share with adults and children.
– Starburst Fruity Chews Tube 106g – easy to pack and carry tube.

Adult gifts:
– Dove Amicelli Gift Pack 350g – crispy wafer filled with creamy hazelnut praline covered with Dove milk chocolate presented in a new gift box.

Character gifts:
– M&M’s Sing Along Microphone 90g – two packs of M&M’s milk chocolate plus a microphone for children to have karaoke-style fun as the voice-box megaphone enhances the sound of their voices.
– M&M’s Motorbike Route 66 Dispenser 125g – A dispenser addition featuring the Red M&M driving a motorbike with Yellow sitting in the sidecar plus 125g of Peanut M&M’s.
– M&M’s Felt Pen Set Chocolate 90g – two packs of (45g) M&M’s milk chocolate featuring a set of 18 M&M’s branded felt tip pens.

Outperforming expectations, and following a strong, high-growth year in terms of sales volume, MITR said it “continues to re-align its portfolio to match the industry zeitgeist which is heading firmly towards quality and simplicity across core brands”.

Part of MITR’s strategy is to promote value for money, focusing on the quality, popularity and strength of its top global brands.

“While we have continued to see the move towards value in the sharing sector, there is still the need to offer a range of gifts for adults and children,” said MITR Consultant Stuart Bull. “MITR continues to be the clear leader in the gift market for children with our range of M&M’s packs.

“Our core trusted brands, Mars, Bounty, Snickers and Twix, offer quality confectionery, affordability and are delivered in well designed but simple packs. This year we’ve witnessed tremendous growth with the introduction of Pouch packs,” added Bull.

Top-selling MITR packs in the last 12 months are: M&M’s MINIS Dispenser 100g; Celebrations 825g Jar; and Mixed Minis 500g.
