Caran d’Ache pens Euro 2008 partnership with Warner Bros – 05/07/06

Caran d’Ache has announced a licensing agreement with Warner Bros Consumer Products to create a new range of Euro 2008 logoed merchandise

SWITZERLAND. Caran d’Ache has announced a licensing agreement with Warner Bros Consumer Products to create a new range of Euro 2008 logoed merchandise. The UEFA European Championships will be held in Austria and Switzerland in summer 2008.

This is the first time that the Swiss enterprise, famous for its pencils, crayons, artistic and writing tools, has struck a marketing deal for licensed products.

The agreement with Warner Bros, the exclusive worldwide UEFA licensing and merchandising representative, allows Caran d’Ache to use the logo and the image of the Euro 2008 mascot on some product lines for children and adults, which will be marketed from autumn 2006.

Caran d’Ache products ‘wearing the colours’ of Euro 2008 include:

– A metal ballpoint pen with a Euro 2008 design printed on it. With a light aluminium body, the pen is described as ‘particularly wear resistant’ and will last for 600 pages of writing.

– A frosty ballpoint pen with a Euro 2008 design, with a refillable metal cartridge.

– Mr. Color painting water-soluble crayons, dermatologically tested and easy to wash off with soap and water, will colour adults and kids’ faces with the image of the Euro 2008 Mascot.

– 12 water-soluble colouring pencils of the ‘Junior’ line to be merchandised with a mascot colouring book.

Caran d’Ache General Director Silvio Laurenti said: “The purpose of the agreement is to increase the awareness of our lower price product range among passionate football supporters. A football match is a sport shared by a large and mixed public worldwide and Euro 2008 represents the biggest football event of the decade to take place in Switzerland. For us, this will be a chance to stress our role as a top-quality brand in Swiss enterprise.”

Warner Bros Consumer Products will support Caran d’Ache in developing official Euro 2008 products and in choosing graphic elements and the best subjects from its licensing programme.

“Having Caran D’Ache as our Euro 2008 licensee is a great success for us, as it is a renowned enterprise, known for its quality products, for its precision, design and innovation,” said Pilar Zulueta, Senior Vice President & General Manager Warner Bros Consumer Products Europe Middle East and Africa. “The essence of our licensing programme is to remind football supporters of the emotions they felt during the European Championship, and to let them live through our products in each moment they’re used.”
