Changi passenger volume maintains hot pace – 15/09/04

SINGAPORE. Passenger traffic at Changi Airport continued to surpass pre-SARS levels in the month of August.

Changi Airport handled some 2.6 million travellers in August 2004, marking an increase of +15% as compared to the 2.3 million travellers in August 2003 (figures rounded). Compared to August 2002, the latest number was +4% higher.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said: “The latest figures offer optimism that passenger traffic at Changi Airport will reach new heights this year, barring unforeseen circumstances.”

Between January and August 2004, a total of 19.7 million passengers visited the airport, a +31.1% rise year-on-year and a +2.9% increase from the corresponding January to August period in 2002.

Passenger volume at Changi Airport reached a record high in 2002, hitting 29 million passengers for the full year.
