Outgoing YSL Beauté Chairman and CEO Chantal Roos |
NETHERLANDS. PPR today confirmed that Chantal Roos, President and Chief Executive Officer of YSL Beauté, is leaving to take up a new position as Strategic Advisor to Gucci Group for the fragrances and cosmetics sector.
Her successor at YSL is Andrea Barbier, formerly General Manager of the Latin American “Produits Grand Public” division at L’Oréal.
Both Roos and Barbier will report directly to President and CEO of Gucci Group Robert Polet. The new appointments are effective 2 May.
In her new position, Roos will be responsible for giving strategic advice on the development opportunities for Gucci Group and its brands in the worldwide fragrances and cosmetics market.
Polet commented: “Chantal has transformed YSL Beauté and returned it to profitability and growth. She leaves a healthy and vibrant business for Andrea to inherit. We look forward to continuing to benefit from Chantal’s knowledge and expertise as she takes up her new role with Gucci Group.
“In Andrea I am confident we have someone with excellent skills and experience who will advance the work done to date and accelerate this positive trend. I’m delighted to welcome him to YSL Beauté and Gucci Group.”
Roos added: “Thanks to the work of its whole team, YSL Beauté has rediscovered the path to profitable and sustainable growth. It is now the perfect moment for me to devote myself exclusively to what has always been my passion: the development of brands, concepts and trends, anticipating and delivering solutions to the evolving market, whilst always being conscious of the pursuit of excellence and highest quality. I am delighted to be doing this with Robert Polet and Gucci Group’s team.”
Barbier noted: “This is a great opportunity for me to take on a business that is in good shape in all areas and offers considerable growth. YSL Beauté has a strong portfolio of prestigious brands and it will be very exciting to develop these to an even higher level of excellence.”
Roos rejoined YSL Beauté – and the house that catapulted her into perfumery’s premier league – in 2000. From 1976 to 1990, she was International Product Director, then International Marketing Director, Deputy General Director and French Operations General Director for Yves Saint Laurent Parfums, working on the launches of Opium, Paris and Kouros, among others.
From 1990 to 2000, Roos was Chairman and CEO of BPI (Beauté Prestige International, a division of Shiseido), where she launched the iconic Issey Miyake and Jean-Paul Gaultier fragrances.
She was renowned among travel retailers the world over for her understanding, support and success in the channel.
Barbier joined L’Oréal in 2001. Prior to that he worked for 10 years with Kraft covering different managerial positions in marketing and sales.
