Charmex hits an 80-year high with limited series – 09/11/07

Traditional timepiece: Charmex’s Réserve de Marche is the first edition in the Jubilé 1926-2006 Collection

SWITZERLAND. Montres Charmex SA is celebrating its 80th anniversary in the Swiss watchmaking industry with the new Jubilé 1926-2006 Collection. The new watches will be on show at the Middle East Exclusive exhibition (Booth number: H5).

The limited-edition collection comprises five new automatic models to be introduced over the next five years. Described as a blend of tradition and innovation, the collection draws on Charmex’s long experience in manufacturing quality watches.

The five watches house different complications, but all have the same elegant case. Each model will be manufactured in a limited edition of 200.

Collectors can buy the complete collection. One new model will be presented each year and, in 2011, Charmex will offer a finely-crafted box with the fifth timepiece to house the entire collection.

The first model in the series is the Réserve de Marche, which features a case comprising four separate pieces, each with a tolerance of less than 1/10 mm. The conical shape of the threads for the screws guarantees that the case is not scratched when the screws are turned, according to Charmex.

The blue screws are designed to harmonise with the blue, polished hands, as well as the blue of the power reserve indicator. The colours are repeated on the plate, which has “Limited Edition” engraved on it.

The movement is manufactured with traditional craftsmanship by Dubois-Dépraz. The rotor is rhodium-plated and snailed and has a Côtes de Genève decoration.

Functions include: 44-hour power reserve, a case of 10 micron rosegold-plated stainless steel, 42.5mm diameter, fluted edges, chamfered attachments and silver dial. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres and has a black leather strap. The other version is 10-micron yellow gold-plated or stainless steel case with Champagne-coloured dial.

The retail price (without VAT) is CHF3,240 for the stainless steel model and CHF3,710 for the gold-plated version.

About Montres Charmex

Montres Charmex was established in 1926 when Max Bürgin, the grandfather of the current director Frank M. Bürgin, started his apprenticeship as a watchmaker in the Swiss village of Bubendorf. At that time, the watch sector was untouched by mass production and everything depended on quality. Montres Charmex strives to create watches that preserve and enhance the quality, design and functional criteria of models from the past.
