THAILAND. Chiang Mai Airport, in the north of the country, will undertake several expansion projects this year, according to local reports.
The government wants to make Thailand the air travel hub of southeast Asia and Chiang Mai an important regional hub in the north.
A budget of Bt1.88 million has been allocated for several expansion projects, including the passenger terminal and gates.
Some 13 local and international airlines make regular flights to Chiang Mai. About 70 flights arrive and depart daily.
In 2004 the number of flights at Chiang Mai rose +28% to 20,214. The number of passengers served jumped +33% to 2,663,990. King Power International is the retailer at the airport.
