Chivas Regal unveils travel retail exclusive Scotch collection

There are three expressions in the collection, to be launched every 18 months

UK. Chivas Regal has launched the first of a limited edition collection of ultra-premium Scotch whiskies created exclusively for global travel retail.

The Chivas 18 Ultimate Cask Collection reinterprets the brand’s Chivas 18 expression and each whisky will be finished in varying types of casks to magnify a selection of the 85 flavour notes of the original.

The series will be introduced by the Chivas 18 Ultimate Cask Collection First Fill American Oak Finish, which is available exclusively in travel retail from this month. Having been rested in these casks for a period of time, the expression is said to feature “more indulgent vanilla and caramel notes with a deep golden hue”.

Each whisky will be presented in luxurious packaging, textured in deep, dark Chivas 18 blue and embossed with Chivas design motifs, according to the company. In a design nod to the golden hue of the whisky, a golden ribbon adorns the front of the box, embossed with the respective name of each expression in the Ultimate Cask Collection series.

Chivas Regal Master Blender Colin Scott said: “For this new Scotch whisky collection we wanted to create unique blends that accentuate the most iconic notes of our original creation Chivas Regal 18 Year Old.”

In another twist, Experimental Chef Jozef Youssef has been enlisted to explore how the surrounding environment affects the whisky experience, and he has created a set of guiding sensory principles that encourages whisky enthusiasts to embark on their own experimental exploration. The guidelines suggest a series of techniques that can be tailored to indulge in a more mindful experience of the blend.

He said: “The surrounding environment and our state of mindfulness has the power to completely augment our perception of taste. By magnifying our senses we shift our cognition which allows us to discover the true depth of a product, and in this case to enjoy Chivas 18 Ultimate Cask Collection First Fill American Oak Finish to its fullest potential.”

The Chivas 18 Ultimate Cask Collection is bottled at 48% ABV and exclusively available in global travel retail at a price of US$125. The first launch will be followed by two further expressions, to be released every 18 months.
