DENMARK. Copenhagen Airports has purchased an additional 12.5% stake in Mexico’s Inversiones y Técnicas Aeroportuarias (ITA), raising its shareholding from 36.5% to 49%.
The remaining 51% is owned by Mexican businessman, Fernando Chico Pardo.
Copenhagen Airports has owned a stake in ITA since 1998. In December 2004, it announced that it would have the opportunity to acquire an additional 12.5% – and it is this transaction that has now been completed, at a cost of US$17.8 million.
Copenhagen Airports operates Denmark’s Kastrup and Roskilde Airports, and also owns a 49% stake in Newcastle Airport in the UK and a 20% stake in Hainan Meilan Airport in China.
ITA owns 15% of Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), which operates nine airports in southeast Mexico and serves around 14 million passengers each year.
In its capacity as a strategic partner of ASUR, ITA conducts active ownership through a shareholders’ agreement and a consulting agreement.
