SINGAPORE. Jewel Changi Airport is set to open a state-of-the-art digital experience and a new interactive play area on 10 June.
The eagerly-awaited attractions will complement the range of leisure and tourism activities already offered at the hub which has rapidly become Singapore’s latest lifestyle destination.

Canopy Park caters for the young, and the young at heart, while Changi Experience Studio offers visitors an aviation-themed journey of fun and discovery.
The 14,000sq m Canopy Park houses seven play attractions and creative gardens. According to Changi Airport Group (CAG), the first-of-its-kind play attractions – the work of designers from Britain, France, Germany, Singapore and The Netherlands – offer travellers and residents “endless fun”.

The attractions include a Mirror Maze and Hedge Maze, Manulife Sky Nets and Discovery Slides. The HSBC Rain Vortex and Shiseido Forest Valley can be viewed from the glass panel floored Canopy Bridge, which is suspended 23m above ground.
Foggy Bowls creates the experience of playing among clouds, Topiary Walk features a whimsical wonderland with an orangutan, crocodile, elephant, peacock and chameleon and Petal Garden offers seasonal displays of flowers.
Canopy Park also offers a range of food and beverage outlets and communal spaces which are dedicated to hosting activities.

Jewel Changi Airport Chief Executive Officer Hung Jean said: “Changi Airport holds a special place in the hearts of many, especially Singaporeans, and we want to extend this special bond for everyone who visits Jewel.
“The attractions and gardens on Canopy Park are designed for guests to relax or have a fun time with their families and friends, whether they reside in Singapore or are international travellers visiting Jewel.”
Jean said Canopy Park is designed to offer a green natural environment with play and leisure activities for people of all ages.
“Importantly, we wanted to create a space where activities that are traditionally conducted outdoors, are brought to an indoor environment so that they can be enjoyed under all weather conditions,” she added.

To mark the Canopy Park launch Jewel has launched a series of cartoon stickers of the airport’s imaginative resident, the Pacific Swallow and ladybug, for social media use.
The 16 stickers represent a range of emotions related to Jewel’s dine, shop, play and fly experiences. They will be rolled out in phases via an online gif platform from mid-June.

The Level 4 Changi Experience Studio aims to offer visitors a “journey of fun and discovery through the virtual world of Changi Airport” and includes a singing garden, a runway race, a quest to collect airport trolleys and a ‘battle of smiles’.
With a floor space of over 3,000sq m, there are more than 20 different touchpoints and nine zones featuring interactive games, projection storytelling, immersive shows and gallery exhibits.

Each touchpoint tells a different slice of the Changi Airport story, uncovered through the visitor’s participation. Each visitor has an interactive Travel Guide device which offers different digital experiences through the innovative use of light. CAG said it is the first time this cutting-edge technology, which was developed by Milla & Partner, has been used in Singapore and Asia.
The Travel Guide’s optical infrared markers are triggered and controlled by the visitor’s movements to detect and project content. A radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip embedded within the Travel Guide records the visitor’s game points and prizes, as well as photographs taken along the studio journey. Photos taken can be viewed and purchased at kiosks located near the studio exit, next to the airport’s Gift by Changi Airport souvenir store.

Changi Airport Group Managing Director for Airport Operations Jayson Goh said: “We want the studio journey to be one where visitors can actively participate in a playful journey full of surprises that allows them to understand the story and spirit of Changi in an experiential manner.
“Beyond the entertainment, visitors can learn about the past and present of Singapore’s air hub, the inner workings of the airport, and experience what makes Changi tick.”
Goh described the Changi Experience Studio as a “living tribute to the 50,000-strong airport community that makes Changi Airport what it is today”.
“We aspire for the studio to be a showcase of the Changi experience and service innovation. As an innovation space, the interactive exhibits will not remain static, but will continue to evolve as new stories on Changi are written.”

According to CAG, it takes over 90 minutes to complete all the experiences. The Changi Experience Studio will operate daily from 10am until 10pm. Online ticket sales are available from 6 June 2019.
Cloud marks the start of the Changi Experience Studio journey and leads to the Hanging Garden, an interactive content zone featuring seven discovery stations. Visitors can learn about many aspects of Changi Airport – from the story behind each terminal, to what goes on behind the scenes, including airside operations, horticulture, and the creation of the Changi Experience for passengers.

The Time Tunnel traces Changi’s historical milestones and Amazing Runway mimics the Changi Airport Race, a 2009 runway race between a Porsche 911 GT3 Carrera Cup car and a Boeing 747 aircraft, and the Sky Deck showcases the air hub’s connectivity.
Smile Challenge offers a battle to find the airport’s biggest smile and Backstage takes visitors behind the scenes via an Efficiency Game inspired by critical airport processes like check-in, aircraft turnaround, baggage sorting and immigration. It also offers fun photograph opportunities.

The Arena Superhero Game stations stimulate the jobs of a security officer, taxi coordinator and trolley handler and in the Garden of Harmony visitors can make music through vertical hand movements. Each visitor ‘plays’ a different musical instrument, before coming together with other players to perform a symphony.
“The Garden of Harmony is a metaphor for teamwork, specifically how the 50,000-strong airport community comes together across many different functions to deliver a world-class and seamless Changi experience for all passengers daily,” CAG said.
The final station is a multimedia room offering an audio-visual experience of Changi Airport’s history and vision.
