Dallas/Fort Worth issues latest round of food & beverage and retail RFPs

US. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has released the latest Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for food & beverage and retail concessions at Terminals B and E, with a deadline for submissions of 24 August.

As reported, the airport awarded the first set of commercial contracts for the terminals in June and these new RFPs form Part 2 of this concession development, with additional locations being offered in 2013.

The RFPs are arranged into packages which include three food & beverage locations, six retail shops and five newsstands – all but one are located in Terminal E.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has issued its latest round of commercial RFPs

The F&B locations include a full-service local or regional Tex-Mex concept serving Mexican beers, frozen margaritas, breakfast menu, traditional fare such as tacos and Fajitas served sizzling on a cast-iron skillet, and a minimum requirement of two vegetarian dishes.

In keeping with the need for fast service in the airport environment, the RFP states that this location is expected to have a menu and style of service that allows customers to be served their drink orders in less than two minutes and their food orders in less than 15 minutes.

Also joining the line-up will be a fast food counter-service Asian concept with a breakfast menu, combo meals for quick ordering, healthy selections such as salads, and non-alcoholic beverages only. The airport suggests a variety of cooking methods are used such as wok, grill and Teppanyaki (food cooked in front of guests on a large iron skillet).

The third F&B location is a major regional, national or international fast food counter-service burger concept with a breakfast menu, combo meals, a children’s menu, at least two vegetarian options, and non-alcoholic beverages only. The RFP states that the food must be prepared and ready for pickup within five minutes.

The commercial offer at DFW Airport Terminal B is being upgraded

The retail locations include two sports apparel stores, accessories, consumer electronics, destination themed gifts and an open concept.

The destination themed gifts store must “celebrate the spirit of Fort Worth and Dallas”, states the RFP, selling Texas-themed clothes and gifts. Of the five newsstands selling magazines, books, souvenirs and convenience items, the RFP states that three must serve coffee.

The two logoed sports apparel stores are to feature a sports theme or specific athletics brand and must feature products from Dallas/Fort Worth-based teams.

DFW said the consumer electronics location was included to cater for the “increasingly technology-dependent customer base”. The accessories store can focus on a single branded manufacturer or multiple brands, it said.

Finally, the 1,423sq ft open location should appeal to multiple demographics and include product lines for men, women and children. The RFP also states that this concept must be complementary to and not in direct competition with other planned concepts in the area.
