UAE. The Dubai Duty Free Men’s Open 2004 has been named the tennis tournament of the year in the International Gold category in the Stars for Stars Tennis Excellence awards.
The awards were made in Miami, US and jointly presented by the ATP and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. The Tournament of the Year award is based on the votes of the tennis players. This is the third time that the ATP players have voted for the Dubai tournament.
Commenting on the award, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group, said: “This award is a great tribute to the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes of the tournament.
“I thank the players and the ATP and congratulate Dubai Duty Free and all of those involved in the tournament’s continued success.”
The Dubai Duty Free Men’s Open, which began in 1993, is an International Series Gold Tournament, the highest level tournament outside of Grand Slams and the Masters Series.
Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, said: “As owners and organisers of the tournament it is a great honour to have won 11 ATP awards over the years. The ‘Tournament of the Year’ award in the International Gold category is particularly special as it represents the opinions of the players participating in tournaments that set an extremely high standard.”
