Viracopos has not previous had duty free stores, although Dufry has two duty paid Dufry Shopping stores in the domestic area of the terminal.

The new stores offer a variety of imported products including liquor, perfumes and cosmetics, food, electronics, watches and gift items from well-known international brands.

There is no limit on purchases at the Departures store, and a US$500 limit in Arrivals; payment can be converted into Brazilian Reals with instalments on the credit card.

As reported, Dufry agreed the 10-year contract with private airport manager Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos in April, in a deal that includes a 550sq m Arrivals store and 150sq m Departures store in the new terminal that will open in May 2014.

Humberto Mota, President of Dufry Brasil, said that the presence of Dufry in Campinas is important for the consolidation process of the company in the main airports in Brazil and the world: “We are the global leader in the sector,” he said.

Mota said that partnership between Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos and Dufry assures users of Viracopos International Airport of “excellence in customer service with the best products and prices, and Dufry Standard Quality that assured us the award of Best Duty Free Operator Americas in 2013 for the sixth consecutive year.”

Dufry Brasil COO José Carlos Rosa expressed the expectation that the duty free shops will attract an increased number of international travellers through the appeal of well-known international brands.
