Ireland-based brands representative Duty Free Global has named highly experienced drinks and travel retail industry executive Tito González as Vice President Americas, effective from this month.
Based in his homeland of Panama, González has spent more than 20 years in the wines & spirits industry, holding international management positions for Cruzan, V&S Absolut Spirits, Groupe Belvédère and Waldemar Behn.
He was also a Category Director for travel retailer Grupo Wisa. His career in sales stretches back to the 1990s when he worked with Procter & Gamble and Samsung Corporation.
DFG underlined González’ experience of working with consumers, brand owners and retailers across multiple channels in local markets as well as in travel retail. It noted that he brings “a brand owner’s approach to business, and a deep understanding of the Travel retail channel”.
González commented: “This is just an incredible team to work with. We all come from different backgrounds and cultures but share the same objective – to build brands. America plays a big role in our global business and Latin America and the Caribbean are full of opportunities and areas to conquer.”
Duty Free Global Founder Barry Geoghegan said: “I have known Tito for many many years. I have huge respect for his passion for the channel and his incredible product knowledge in the wine and spirits business. We are delighted to make such a senior appointment in the region as the Americas is a big priority for DFG and its brand partners.”
Tito González will be attending the Summit of the Americas in Palm Beach from 17-19 April, where he plans to meet brand partners and retailers. ✈
