Duty Free World Council agrees strategy

FRANCE. The Duty Free and Travel Retail World Council held a landmark meeting during the Cannes show with representatives from worldwide duty free and travel retail associations agreeing key action points.

It was agreed that:

* the Council would act as the single voice for the duty free and travel retail industry worldwide on global issues;
* the principle objective of the Council would be to defend and promote the interests of the industry in the international arena;
* the name of the Council would be changed in the interests of simplicity to Duty Free World Council;
* each region would nominate a delegate and an alternative to serve on the World Council, representation to be finalised before the next meeting in March 2004.

Unanimous endorsement was given to the immediate creation and collective funding of a website for the Duty Free World Council, linked to the industry’s existing national, regional and association websites.
