INTERNATIONAL. Cabin crew from Easyjet, bmi charter and Virgin Atlantic scooped the top honours at this year’s Inflight Sales Person of the Year (ISPY) Awards, held near London on Friday night.

The Awards were presented at a packed gala dinner – the culmination of four days’ observation and evaluation via workshops and training assessments.

Easyjet’s Lee Johnson was named overall winner for low cost airlines. Karl Kavanagh (bmi charter) was the best charter airline crew member. Virgin Atlantic’s Jane Nuttall topped the best scheduled airline category.

The event was organised by UK firm Travel Retail Training, headed by Christine and Ray Martin. It is run in association with Alpha Airports Group, whose Chief Executive Kevin Abbott described this year’s event as “simply outstanding”.

The gold sponsor is Lancaster Group. Other sponsors and supporters include Pernod Ricard Travel Retail, Britvic, Badgemaster, British American Tobacco, Braun, Cadbury, CAT Design, Clue Trader, Diageo, Distilleria Bottega, the Estée Lauder Companies, Fabris Lane, Food Partners, the Hugo Boss group, the Inter-City Watch Group, Imperial Tobacco, Masterfoods, Minox, Portfolio Partners, Premier Portfolio, Raven Fox, Russ Berrie, The Moodie Report, and The Ad Plain.

This year 62 cabin crew representing 35 airlines from all over the world took part in the event, which has grown in status since its inception in 1999 to become a deservedly high-profile event in the travel retail industry’s calendar.

“Representing an airline at this event is an achievement in itself,” noted (Christine) Martin, who described the participants as “the world’s greatest-selling cabin crew”.
