Emirates and Montblanc winning bid generates US$90,000 for charities

UAE. Emirates and Montblanc have donated US$90,000 to two designated charities, The Smile Train and the Emirates Airline Foundation, after concluding their joint bid onboard competition.

Bids were made on a limited edition timepiece from the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec TimeWriter Collection, created exclusively for Emirates.

The luxury promotion to win the collector’s watch – a two-tone dial design in 18 carat red gold created to celebrate the 190th anniversary of the chronograph – was opened to all Emirates airline passengers in July 2011 and culminated with a winning bid of US$90,000 in December 2011. The winner, who placed the highest bid, was notified in early 2012 and has requested to remain anonymous.

The winner gets First Class Emirates flights and a two-night stay at the luxurious Montblanc Chateau, LeLocle

The proceeds of the promotion will be split equally between the Emirates Airline Foundation, a non-profit organisation which aims to improve the quality of life for children across the world, and to The Smile Train, a leading international charity providing cleft lip and palate surgery and medical training.

“This exclusive partnership with Montblanc has allowed Emirates not only to further enhance the distinctive and memorable onboard offerings we provide for our customers, but also to reinforce our commitment to charitable causes,” said Emirates Vice President Retail Services John Sime.

“Both the Emirates Airline Foundation and The Smile Train do amazing work across the world and we are proud to be able to help them reach their goals through this dedicated donation from one of our discerning customers.”

A total of 87 bids were received for the prize, which, in addition to the unique watch, included a complimentary trip for two to Geneva. The package includes First Class Emirates flights and a two-night stay at the luxurious Montblanc Chateau, LeLocle, nestled in the mountains of the Swiss Jura, which is also home to Montblanc Montre S.A.

The promotion was open to customers onboard all Emirates flights with a minimum starting bid of US$45,000.
