UGANDA. The government of Uganda is set to announce tenders for the construction of a new restaurant and shopping mall at Entebbe International Airport.
The government has reserved 70 hectares of land for the restaurant and shopping mall, as part of ambitious expansion plans, confirmed Entebbe Airport Public Relations Officer Ignatius Igunduura.
“We are going to invite tenders for the construction of a restaurant and shopping malls in three months’ time,” Igunduura said.
The airport already features a restaurant serving African, Indian, Chinese and Italian foods. The new restaurant is intended to bring more international flavour to the airport.
In addition to the airport’s pre-existing, privately-operated duty free retail offer, the new shopping mall and restaurant will be run by the private investors who win the contracts to build them, Igunduura confirmed.
“Government is also planning to establish cargo stores at the airport before the end of 2012 and this will also attract investors as it will be advertised for tender,” said Igunduura.
