Estée Lauder’s latest stress-buster: Advanced Night Repair Concentrate Recovery Boosting Treatment |
UK. Estée Lauder is to extend its iconic Night Repair franchise with a new treatment, Advanced Night Repair Concentrate Recovery Boosting Treatment. It will be launched in UK travel retail in September, in tandem with the UK domestic launch, before rolling out to other travel retail doors in November.
When it first appeared in 1982, the original Night Repair Cellular Complex was regarded as a breakthrough product which kick-started the repair segment. The franchise was further strengthened in the 1990s, with the introduction of Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex. An eye product was added in 2003.
The latest treatment promises concentrated repair for overstressed and visibly irritated skin. It is available as a 30ml and will be priced domestically at €95.
Advanced Night Repair Concentrate Recovery Boosting Treatment was unveiled this week in London at an international launch event led by Estée Lauder Vice President Global Research and Development Dr Daniel Maes.
New research has shown that excessive exposure to environmental and dermatological stressors and skin irritation contribute to and accelerate the damage that leads to visible ageing,” he explained. “DNA damage can lead to skin degradation, causing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles”¦The most critical mechanism in the fight against visible skin ageing is the ability to help support the skin’s natural recovery from the visible effects of this damage.”

Maes went on the explain the importance of the key ingredient, Bifidus Extract. “This is a yeast which enhances the repair of the DNA within the skin cells. It reactivates a specific enzyme in the cells whose job it is to repair DNA. So it basically enhances the skin’s own ability to repair itself”¦If you repair DNA it restores the optimal function of the immune system.”
Every time skin responds to stress, such as sun exposure, windburn or dermatological procedures, it brings skin to a natural “state of emergency”. The visible surface symptoms of redness and irritation, triggered by exposure to excessive stress, can push skin into a “crisis condition” causing damage that can lead to visible skin ageing.
Maes explained: “To simplify, extreme stress leads to inflammation, and inflammation leads to ageing.”
Studies show that irritation peaks 10 hours after exposure. As most assaults on the skin occur during the daytime hours, the full degree of irritation often does not appear until night, making it the optimum time for repair.
According to Maes, Advanced Night Repair Concentrate Recovery Boosting Treatment is able to help alleviate sun burn. It is also said to be ideal for use pre- and post- abrasive dermatological procedures, such as acid skin peels.
The product can be used in several main ways. It can be used every three to four months for a period of 21 nights, as a seasonal booster. It can be used one week prior to any cosmetic procedure such as microdermabrasion or a chemical peel, and for two weeks afterwards. Or it can be used ad hoc, following sun/cold exposure, windburn, or dehydrating conditions such as a long haul flight.
